Our secretary Judy Horton shares the story of the life and work of this little known Australian-born artist who gathered a number of famous artistic friends of his era, most notably Vincent Van Gogh. JP Russell’s work has become more recognised over time, a fact substantiated when last year his painting Cruach en Mer (c.1905) was sold for close to $4 million last year, the highest 2024 figure for an Australian art sale.
